BPD: Artistic Part

Heyy,

I have been inspired by many different sources artistically, especially for the part of the animation when the girl becomes a monster,

(first images from Stranger Things, the Demagorgon, last ones from the book The art of Alice: Madness Returns)

and for the emotions part.

I went to the Wellcome Collection, and actually found really interesting sculptures and ideas to apply to my own work. (Thanks Alexandra)

From all these I made my concept art.

Finally, storyboard and script of my animation.

At the start of the video, the viewer will see the girl looking out of the window of her room. She is looking at the outside world like an observer.

There is a tree in front of her window with a birds-nest on, and with three small birds crying for food.

When the mum of the birds arrives to feed them, the girl feels extremely happy, demonstrating the empathy she has for other living things.

Subsequently, we see one of the birds falling from the tree. This is a big shock for the girl, and it triggers a crisis. Here we see the camera spinning around her faster and faster.
The birds’ story is meant to show how insignificant daily events could be the cause of extreme emotions for a BPD sufferer.

She is crying, one moment she is desperate and the moment after just resigned. She feels very angry and the moment after she feels hopeless.
While she is having the crisis she suffers mutations, these are to resemble what a person with BPD feels during a crisis. She becomes a monster, then she comes back to normal in an endless process that replicates the agony waves suffered in a crisis.
Tentacles rise from her back in a moment, and the moment after she feels like she has no skin anymore, just bones.
She then crawls down in a fetal position and her body starts cracking, just like a china vase.

She then receives a text on her phone, meant to be from a friend asking her: “Hi. Are you alright?”
And we see her replying just: “Yes.”
This is to resemble the loneliness idea. Especially when the subject is on a crisis, nobody can understand her, because she has been probably hurt in the past, so she just abstains from explaining herself.
She now rises again and explodes into a million pieces. The buildup of emotions caused her to give up, she could not handle it anymore and crushed by the frustration of being alone.
The screen fades to black.
In the end of the animation, see her waking up the next day, going to the window and lightly burning herself in the process of lighting up a cigarette, and starting another crisis for a meaningless cause.

Eleonora
